Warrior Recap: August 25, 2022 Volleyball Kicks Season Off With a Win Over Rye Cove

Yesterday was a good day for the Warriors' volleyball and golf teams. The volleyball kicked their season off on the road at Rye Cove to take on the Eagles last night in a non-conference matchup. Coming into this season, the volleyball team has some inexperience to work around while still working with some returning starters. Some new faces to the team include freshmen Sophie Fleming, Chloe Wells, and Ameera Youmessi, along with some returning players, including Emilee Mullins, Emmah McAmis, and Abbie Jordan. The inexperience did not waiver the Warriors as they took down the Eagles in four sets (25-17, 20-25, 25-8, 25-16) to claim their first victory of the season. Abbie Jordan led the way for the Warriors with 11 kills and 4 blocks. Sophie Fleming led the team with 21 digs and Emilee Mullins pitched in 24 assists along with 20 service points. The volleyball team will return to action on Saturday for a tournament at Virginia High.

For the golf team, they traveled down to Scott County Park yesterday for a match with Gate City, Union, and John Battle for a nine-hole match. The tough course conditions did not affect the Warriors as they fired their best nine-hole score of the season with a 184. The Warriors still fell behind Union (165) and Gate City (175) but topped John Battle (209) and are showing improvement as the season progresses. Leading the way for the Warriors was senior Robbie Wilson, who shot 42. Davis Miller followed behind with a 45. Aaron Lawson shot his season-best 48 along with Jacob Hughes, who pitched in a 49. The golf team's next scheduled match is a district match at Lonesome Pine Country Club on Tuesday, August 30th. #GoDubs
