Warriors Sneak into the Playoffs With Win Over Grundy

The stakes were high for the Warriors heading into Friday night's final regular season football game on The Hill. It was senior night for our fall sports athletes, as tonight was the seniors' final football game on The Hill.

Heading into the game, the Warriors sat in 9th place behind 8-seed Richlands. With the top 8 teams moving on to the region tournament, the Warriors needed to win against Grundy, AND Virginia High had to win over Richlands for the Warriors to take that 8th spot.

When Grundy received the opening kickoff, things began to look bleak early on for the Warriors as the Golden Wave put up an exhausting 11-minute drive for 8 points following a successful 2-point conversion.

With the Warriors' first drive coming from late in the first quarter, Central knew they needed to get some points on the board and shut down Grundy's systematic offense. After a 1st quarter that lasted only 20 minutes, the Warriors came out firing in the second quarter, featuring two touchdown runs, one from senior Alec Gent from 11 yards out and a short 2-yard run from senior Dane Elkins midway through the second quarter pushed the Warriors in front 14-8 as both teams headed to the locker rooms for halftime.

The second half was all Central. On offense, the Warriors kept pounding the ball downfield. The Warriors scored on the half's opening drive via a 30-yard pass from senior Braeden Church to senior Brady Carter for Carter's first career touchdown. Church would follow that up with a touchdown on a QB sneak and a 20-yard passing touchdown to Gent in the third quarter. Gent would later score his third touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter on an impressive 37-yard run to seal the deal.

Central's defense held strong as ever following the game's opening drive, not allowing another Grundy score and forcing three turnovers, including an interception from Church and a fumble recovery from sophomore Nate West. The Warriors' strong defense and an efficient offense led the Warriors to a 41-8 victory over Grundy, helping their chances of making the region tournament.

After the final on The Hill, all attention shifted to Bristol, VA, where Virginia High held a 28-21 lead over Richlands when the Warriors' game concluded. After much anticipation, the final score was announced as Virginia High took down Richlands 52-28, securing the Warriors a spot in the region tournament.

The first round pins the Warriors against the undefeated Graham G-Men next Friday, November 11, for the first round of the Region 2D tournament!! #GoDubs
