It may have been Saturday, but the Warriors volleyball team was hard at work in the Sunset Slush Summer Jam tournament at Virginia High, featuring teams from around the area. The Warriors began the day facing off against region 2D opponent Richlands, where they swept them in straight sets (25-15, 25-22). The second pool game had the Warriors squaring off against the Indians from Rural Retreat, which resulted in another 2-0 sweep (25-23, 25-19). The third game pinned them up against Radford, which the Warriors squeaked out of with a win 2-1 in dramatic fashion (28-26, 20-25, 1-0). Due to time limits, the third set came down to a sudden death rally, which the Warriors won thanks to a block by senior Taylor Cochran. Thanks to a 3-0 run in pool play, the Warriors were placed in the gold bracket along with some other mountain 7 foes, including Ridgeview and Union. The Warriors obtained the #1 seed, which led to them facing off against Ridgeview in the first round of tournament play. But after a long day of playing, the Warriors were drained of energy and dropped the contest 0-2 (23-25, 11-25). The volleyball team will return to action tomorrow, Monday, August 28th, at Letcher County Central. #GoDubs
